Geelong City Council raised daily parking fees at Eastern Beach to $8 from July 1, with the change applying to the 250-space lot along Eastern Beach Road.

The update matters now because winter weekend numbers at the waterfront have risen 18 percent since 2024, according to council visitor data, pushing demand on limited paid spaces and the nearby 109 bus route from Geelong station.

Drivers heading to the Geelong Waterfront can use the new ticket machines on Eastern Beach Road or download the ParkGeelong app for two-hour blocks at $3.50. Two blocks away on Little Malop Street, the Geelong Market runs every Saturday from 8am with no entry fee but charges $4 for validated parking at the adjacent Myer Centre deck.

Transport and timing details

Public transport remains the cheapest option. A single V/Line trip from Melbourne to Geelong station costs $12.80 off-peak, and the 1km walk to the waterfront takes 12 minutes along Moorabool Street. The council’s winter program at Kardinia Park adds free shuttle buses from the station on Saturdays until 5pm.

Recent figures show average spend at waterfront cafes reached $19 per person last winter, with the highest prices at venues along the promenade. Visitors should carry contactless payment, as several kiosks stopped accepting cash in May.

Practical steps before arrival

Check the ParkGeelong app or council website the night before for any event closures at the beachfront. Arrive before 10am on weekends to secure the $8 all-day rate, and keep the ticket receipt for re-entry at the same lot. Families planning a full day should budget an extra $25 for two adults and one child using the bus from the station plus market snacks.

Those arriving by car from the Princes Highway can exit at Latrobe Terrace and follow signs to Eastern Beach Road to avoid the one-way loop around the central business district.
