Integrated Comprehensive Transport Plan Directs Geelong Investment Decisions

The City of Greater Geelong continues to apply its Integrated Comprehensive Transport Plan while a new Integrated Transport Strategy is prepared to take its place. The current document sets out actions that will influence spending on roads, public transport links and related infrastructure across the entire municipal area, including urban zones, coastal settlements and the key gateways at Avalon Airport and Geelong Port.
Population growth and shifts in local industry remain the main drivers for the plan. The City of Greater Geelong has identified health, education, tourism, advanced manufacturing and knowledge sectors as areas of expanding activity, and the transport framework is intended to support movement between homes, workplaces and these growing industries.

Residents who rely on connections between residential areas and employment centres or education facilities will be affected by the timing of projects listed in the plan. Short term steps are defined as those completed within one year, medium term actions run from one to five years, and longer term measures stretch from five to ten years. These categories cover planning, development and management of the transport network throughout the City of Greater Geelong region.
The study area takes in the full extent of the municipality, with some recommendations extending beyond the boundary where they address issues that directly affect local travel. The plan replaced the 2003 Geelong Integrated Transport Strategy after many of its earlier actions had been carried out.
Next steps in the review process
Development of the plan involved two rounds of consultation, including workshops with government, industry and community representatives followed by a 28 day public exhibition period.
