Geelong Residents Lace Up for Waterfront Runs, Charity Walks This Month
Geelong residents can join organised runs and walks along the waterfront and river trails in the coming weeks.
How we reported this

Three community fitness events open for registration in Geelong this month. The Geelong Waterfront parkrun meets every Saturday at 8am near Eastern Beach.
Participation in group exercise has grown after winter restrictions eased. Barwon Health recorded 1,240 attendees at its community programs in June 2026, up from 980 the previous year. Local organisers cite the appeal of free or low-cost outdoor sessions near the Barwon River walking trail and the Eastern Beach rock pool as a draw for families and older adults.
Waterfront and river options
The Geelong Waterfront parkrun covers a 5km course that starts at the bollards on Eastern Beach Road and loops past the yacht club. Entry stays free, though participants must register online through the official parkrun site before their first run. A separate charity walk organised by Barwon Health staff will take place on 25 July along the Barwon River walking trail from Shannon Avenue to the Princes Bridge, with a $15 suggested donation collected on the day for local cancer services.
Another event, the Eastern Beach Fun Run, is set for 2 August and charges $20 for adults and $10 for children under 12. The 3km and 7km routes start at the rock pool car park and finish near the carousel on the waterfront promenade. Last year 620 people completed the same course.
How to join
Residents can sign up for the parkrun via the parkrun Australia app or website. Details for the charity walk appear on the Barwon Health community events page, and the fun run registration opens on 15 July through the City of Greater Geelong recreation portal. Anyone with an existing medical condition should check with their GP before starting new activity.
